Deadline Approaching: EnrollOKC.org Helps Families Explore Public School Options Before Feb. 21
As the February 21 priority application deadline approaches for Oklahoma City public charter and application schools, families now have an easier way to explore their options. EnrollOKC.org is a bilingual and user-friendly website where families can research all of their free public school options in Oklahoma City, including charter, application and neighborhood schools.
“Navigating public school options and multiple application deadlines can be overwhelming for families,” said Brent Bushey, CEO of Fuel OKC, the nonprofit behind EnrollOKC.org. “For the first time, families have access to comprehensive school data, direct application links and enrollment information for Oklahoma City public schools on one website, as well as one common priority application deadline for the 2025-26 school year.”
Developed by Fuel OKC, a nonprofit organization committed to expanding high-quality education options in Oklahoma City, EnrollOKC.org offers families a comprehensive, bilingual resource featuring detailed school profiles, academic performance data, demographics and enrollment statistics.
“Enroll OKC is an incredibly helpful tool for parents,” said Martha Paz, a parent whose child attends Dove Science Academy. “We can search for nearby schools, both in English and Spanish, and find ones that offer specific programs—like sports, arts or science—that align with our child’s interests. It makes the process of choosing the best school fit so much easier.”
The need for accessible school information is more urgent than ever. For the 2023-2024 school year, Oklahoma School Report Card data shows that only 18 out of 79 public schools in Oklahoma City earned an A or B rating, classifying them as high-quality schools. Additionally, 43.1% of students in the city attend a public school where fewer than 20% are proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) or reading.
“The data is concerning,” said Brent Bushey, CEO of Fuel OKC. “Especially considering research shows students who haven’t learned to read by third grade are significantly less likely to graduate high school and struggle throughout their education. We believe that when families are empowered with knowledge, they can make informed decisions that best support their children’s educational success.”
Fuel OKC encourages Oklahoma City families seeking a public school option that best fits their child's unique learning needs to explore EnrollOKC.org. Both charter schools and application schools are free, public and open to all. Charter schools have no entrance requirements and enrollment is based on a first-come, first served application process. If the number of applicants exceeds available spots, a lottery system is used to determine admission. Application schools have selective admission requirements, which vary by school.
“Every child deserves a great education, and we know that students learn in different ways,” Bushey said. “By making school options and academic performance data easily accessible, we empower families to find the best fit for their child—no matter their zip code.”
Families interested in applying for the 2025-2026 school year should visit EnrollOKC.org and submit their priority applications by February 21, 2025.
